Hives.

I have no clue what he has gotten into, but good glory he must be miserable!

The rash has spread further down his legs (& is horrible around his midsection), but I didn't want the photos to be too revealing.

I gave him a good dose of Zyrtec versus Benedryl - hopefully it'll do the trick!

(Don't you just love his bleak, annoyed expressions? Teehee. That's my boy. :)

OMG! That looks horrid! Does it itch? Poor boy.

Christine yes! He is itching like mad. I used to get hives uncontrollably, lasted for months - not only do they itch, they hurt! Keeping him home tomorrow. :)

Benedryl!!!! I went for 2 years breaking out in hives for no freaking good reason at all. Doug said it was some sort of reaction to a virus I had caught. I don't know but it was annoying and it was so uncomfortable and Benedryl was the only thing that brought me quick relief. Then I had to take Claritin daily... poor, poor boy! Oh my! And one more thing...cold is a stronger nerve sensation than itch...so if it gets really bad use ice packs and it will help sooth the itching sensation. poor, poor boy!

I should have given him Benedryl! Zyrtec states it's great for hives, so I chose that because it's given less often. We just woke him up to check on him - the hives in the photos are flattening which is good; however, they have spread down his legs & heading up towards his face. I don't know how he is sleeping! Guess we'll reevaluate in the morning!

My hives went on for years too - off & on & it was so incredibly horrible! My dr. had me doing daily diaries to try to find the source - we never did. Now I just get them every now & then & I just despise them!

I didn't know that about ice packs, we may have to try that! Thanks for your help! :)

Is it possible that he came in contact with poison ivy/oak/sumac? Natalie came in contact with poison sumac when she was little. The rash started in one area and spread so fast because there were traces of the oil left on her skin and clothing. I would give benadryl and take him to a Dr. in the morning. Also, check to see if the rash is bad in between his fingers, and in the folds of his skin such as armpits, behind knees, and between toes. That could mean scabies. Keep us posted and tell C1 I hope he feels better soon!

Rebecca, they played outside all afternoon yesterday, but everyone showered last night. We have no poison anything in our yard that we know of. He said he started itching this morning. He is an itchy boy, so I didn't think anything about it. Early evening, he slightly lifted his shirt to itch, & I spotted hives! I told him to remove clothing & oh good glory! I almost passed out! He does have them under his arm pits, but his legs were clear. It has now begun spreading from his tush down his legs. His feet are (were) clear. If he's not better in the a.m., we are headed to the dr.! Thank you!

I had those big welt looking hives in high school and finally had to go get a couple shots in my bum. They were horrible and kept skipping all around. I think it turned out to be some sort of reaction to strep. Just don't use warm or hot water it will make them worse. I remember coming out of the shower with my eyes almost completely swelled shut and angelina jolie had nothing on the size of my lips afterwards too. Just looking at those pictures brings back horrible memories from almost 20 years ago. Poor guy.n Praying that he feels better soon.

My lips swelled too, Sarah! I hadn't heard of anyone having that before. It was horrible but funny because I could hardly talk. Poor boy, poor boy...hope he is better this morning. Just checking in because I worried about him last night.

Sarah yes, hives spread! My lips swell ALL the time. For a while, we thought I was allergic to plastic straws, but obviously not. I've also had the inside of my cheeks/gums swell. For years I purchased scent-free everything (detergent, soaps, etc.) & I used to have to soak in Oatmeal baths. None of it helped.
