Saturday's garage sale goodie.

We were actually headed to Bed Bath & Beyond, when I spied a garage sale sign. Because I was driving, guess which direction the car went? ;o)

And it was so worth it!

I sent hubby up to check her out first - he came back saying she was pretty banged up & had lots of nicks & scratches. From where I was sitting, I thought she looked pretty good, so I went to inspect her myself. Yes, she has some nicks & scratches but all in all, she's in super condition! The nice lady sitting there yelled to me "I've had that since I was a child." And because my mouth operates faster than my brain, I replied "oh, so it's older, then." Realizing what I had just blurted, I dropped my head & cracked up. Then I apologized. "I am so sorry. I did not mean that the way it sounded." LOL Thankfully she started laughing too & said "if you can't laugh at yourself..." Amen to that! :)

This will be my official first piece of furniture to refurbish! I have read lately that many people are now spray painting furniture (such as dressers). I like this little piece so much that I'm just not sure that's the route I want to go. So, I'll have to do some researching. On top of that, I'm not quite sure where I want to use her, so I need to decide that before I can even choose a color. Anyway, this is first on my list, then an old bench I bought from Pottery Barn years ago, then the Craig's List desk & now I have decided --get this --don't fall out of your chair -- I have decided to pad & upholster my king size headboard! I know I know! What? :)

Anyone want to guess at what I paid for this cute little table? Or might I just say - SCORE! Ü

*She was asking $15, but took $11! Cha ching! :)

We didn't do a whole lot today.

Just spent some time trying to get someone's head unstuck from the spindles. ;o)
I'm telling you, we should have our own reality show. :)

And just wait until you see what I found at a garage sale today! Will try to post tomorrow. Ü

Goodwill & garage sale goodies.

Recently I've been eyeing glass cake stands/domes but I've been too frugal darn tootin' cheap to buy one. But today was the day. And I'm glad I waited. This beauty (which is so heavy!) was $8.50 at Goodwill. Not a chip, scratch, nothing! I ♥ it.
Glass bottle on the left: $2
Tall bottle on the right: $1.75 (it's still wet on the inside because I gave it a good scrubbing with soap & hot water)
White candle stand: $.25 cents at a garage sale (candle's mine)
But below. Oh good gravy! Perfect for Jaguar's room! And I only paid TEN dollars for all three! Found at a garage sale.

Tada! Total score! Woot! Ü

My dream kitchen colors.

Do you ever see something & you just know? Either you know that you want to purchase it or you know you want to decorate with it or you know it's just meant to be? It took one look at this elegant kitchen & I just knew. This is it. White & silver. Silver is quickly becoming one of my most favorites colors. And pair it with white? Beautimous. Crisp. Fresh. Clean. Classy. Sophisticated. Gorgeous!

Kitchen renovation by: A Well Dressed Home

I'm not speaking of the layout, per se. Just the colors. Our cobalt blue kitchen is rather small, due to having three entrances which = wasted space. Our cabinets are custom & actually in really good condition. They are currently outdated 'white wash', but could easily (or not so easily?) be painted white. I like stainless steel appliances - they aren't something I coo over - but with white cabinest? Yah baby. Makes me all happy happy.

Maybe someday. Before I'm dead, would be good. ;o) For more examples, google 'white kitchens'. Be prepared to drool. Just lovely! Ü

A whole lotta nothing.

I haven't blogged in a week. I just have nothing. Lots going on in my head, but nothing going on on my blog. Do I want to take my blog a different direction? Decorating? I am all about decorating right now. I have always loved decorating & one reason we bought this home was to renovate & redecorate. Which as you know, we're just now beginning (almost 5 years after moving in), due to the house being neglected by the previous owner. I've also considered including some of the fun stuff some other blogs do (or come up with something new - that would be cool too). Or heck, maybe I should just shut 'er down. Decisions, decisions. Ü

It's no secret I despise Halloween, so thank goodness it's almost upon us! I found the most perfect pumpkin today @ Target. Nice & round & plump, with no flat/bad spots!

Once the Halloween decor comes down, Christmas is going up! I adore Christmas & for some reason I am just so darn tootin' excited! It's going to be a great Christmas this year. Heck, it's a great Christmas every year! So many blessings to be thankful for & of course, Jesus' birthday.

Today I stopped at a garage sale. Yep, Texas has garage sales on Thursdays. I found this gold pinecone wreath for $2. It's not flat on top, so I'm not sure why the image makes it look as if it is. Some of the needles (?) are loose, so I attempted to super glue them to secure them. That um, didn't work so well. ;o) Guess I'll pull out the ol' glue gun. Anyway, I'm so going to paint it silver, hang some beautimous, thick, bright, Christmas-green ribbon through it & hang it up! First I have to figure out how to clean the darn thing.

Happy Halloween & Happy weekend! Ü

I decorated for Halloween!

Right under my Christmas wreath! Ü

Baha! Now typically, this is not how I decorate for Halloween. Last weekend I dusted the family room, so I removed all items off of, well, everything. For whatever reason, I stuck all the Halloween decor on the mantel to get it out of the way. Later on, when I looked back at it, I thought it looked pretty cute! So I'm leaving it. :)

Oh yes, my Christmas wreath. Yes indeed, it's been up all year. Now listen. I'm only 5'2". It is very challenging for me to get that sucker up there, secure it, straighten it & fluff it every Christmas. So, after last Christmas, I left it. (I'm seeing a pattern here - first I leave the wreath & now the Halloween decor. I seem to be getting a case of the lazies. :)

This will be our 5th holiday season in the good ol' Money Pit. I cannot believe we have made it here this long. Anyway. Below is a photo of my front door:

It looks the same on the outside (except it's green. Our last home's front door was painted green too. I don't even like green - unless it's certain shades. How come I get stuck with green front doors?). Because of the glass & wood detail, I have never had success hanging any sort of wreath on the door. I've tried every type of over-the-door wreath hangers they make. To no avail. But ah hah! Today I spied this:

One of those no-damage thingies! And this one claims to hold up to 5 pounds! Tada! Now my other beautimous Christmas wreath can hang on the door! One can hope, anyway. I'll let you know how it goes. Ü

Lowe's has all of their Christmas decor out! I really like Lowe's. They have some great departments & home decor! Mercedes spied the Christmas trees right away. "Kissmas twees! I like the bwue ones (they were all green, not blue. But whatever.) I'z so 'cited!"

I'm ready for cold weather. I'm ready for fires & candles & all the hoopla the Christmas season brings. I ♥♥♥ Christmas! It's my most favorite time of the year. With all the decorating blogs I've discovered, hopefully I can get some new decorating ideas! And I've already bought one Christmas gift. I'm good. Ü

We weren't the only ones in Destin.

(Browsing my photos - I haven't taken many of photos of my children lately! - ran across this. Searching for tar...)

I think I was a little thrift happy.

I'm going to tone my thrifting down a bit. Recently I've noticed I'm not thinking purchases through; thus, resulting in buying items, only to find when I get home, I don't want 'em. That kind of defeats the purpose of thrifting. Ü

I'm also tired of driving & driving searching for garage sales. Yes, I'm aware you can look up garage sales in the paper, etc., but I don't have time for that. From now on, I've decided to stop only at garage sales that are on my way to another destination. That should definitely cut down on gas & time.

I hit some garage sales this morning & then we headed to Goodwill. For the first time ever, I had to leave because a certain 2 1/2 year old (Mercedes!) had a complete, horrible meltdown (Mercedes!). When my scolding was over, she calmed down & we headed to 2 new thrift stores I heard about from a friend of mine. One was another Goodwill & next to it was a thrift store.

Found an awesome garage sale on the way (good thing I don't drive a truck! I seriously could have done some damage at that garage sale!). I purchased this basket, in excellent condition, for $1.00. Yep, $1.00. Score! I've noticed the only type of baskets I'm drawn to are the large, dark colored bamboo with little to no handles. ♥ this basket!

The glass vase, also in perfect condition, I found at the thrift store for $2.70. I love the shape & height. Speaking of clear glass, do you know clear glass looks amazing with white? I.e. white candles? I need to stock up on white candles. Clear glass/white also looks classy with silver.

It is so pretty here in North Texas! We are off to the park later.

Happy weekend! Ü

Coach pitch!

Gone are the days of T-Ball. Now are the days of the real deal! Batter up! Ü

I swear (& I do) he did not learn that gesture from me!

(No clue what he was really doing, but cute shot. I didn't even notice until I was editing photos. :)

My little guy's so tiny to have all this gunk on!

This last photo is so cute! Although blurry, the ball had just bounced off his little face. Guard. Mask. Metal. Thingy. Ü

His games are so much fun! I think I'm the loudest cheerleading mom there. Imagine that. ♥

Ugly vase/pitcher no more.

From tea brown:

To white!

Now let me tell you, this little task proved quite the fiasco. ;o)

I'm new to spray painting & an item such as this probably wasn't the best choice to practice on due to odd dimensions/circumference. Good glory! It started out fine, then in one of the narrow spaces at the top, the paint got too thick & slightly ran. At that point I stopped & debated. Ü I thought about stripping it & starting over. Then I thought 'oh what the heck' & continued to spray, hoping that run would smooth out. And it did, somewhat. Needless to say, I got on a roll & just used the whole dadgum can of spray paint. That's probably why my glossy paint ain't so glossy. And the run is a tad noticeable, but I just turn that side to the wall. I ain't no dummy. Ü

I'm not a quiter! More DIY paint adventures to come. Contain your excitement. Woot!

Goodwill & garage sale goodies.

I have never seen our Goodwill store as stocked as it was this weekend! So much super stuff! I took Bentley with me this time, so I couldn't really shop as much as I would have liked. Someone talks too much & I couldn't think. ;o)

Here is what I did purchase:

White teapot: $3.50 (no chips, nothing)

Glass vase: $2.00 (ditto)

4 books: $1.00

Wall shelf: $5.00 (very well made, little to no dents)

Total: $12.00 Ü

(As we were shopping, some lady walked up next to me & was complaining that there wasn't enough "fall and/or Halloween decorations out". Are you kidding me? Good heavens, we're at Goodwill, not Walmart! :o)

Garage sale:

Shopping Girl plate - $1.00 (when I washed it, I noticed that the little store name in the upper left corner has the beginning of the name missing. I wasn't sure if it's supposed to be like that, or if it had worn off. I found a replica photo online & indeed, the entire name is supposed to be there. Boo! Maybe I can restore it? Heck, probably not. After all, it was only $1.00. That will drive me crazy, though, so back in the garage sale pile it goes! Ü )

Photobucket

Anyway...

3 books - $.75

Wooden teddy bear - $.25

Total: $2.00 Ü

I am banking on getting to Ikea this week. Lord willin' & the creeks don't rise, this week, I'll make it! Ü
